Lack of learner-learner interaction and collaborative learning are common phenomenon in EFL teaching. As a teacher, have you ever thought about improving this situation and integrate collaboration into your class? Padlet is an effective tool to realize this purpose.

What is Padlet ?

Padlet is like a paper for your screen which will update in real time. For a chosen topic, users can write their own text posts or upload any pictures, videos or documents they want to share in it. Once someone add something to the page, others can see it immediately. Meanwhile, it can be used on both mobile devices and computers.

How to use Padlet?

Padlet is very easy to operate. Look the specific steps below:

⏩Step 2: You can see such a white text box after clicking on the screen. You can upload anything or add links and pictures to your post by clicking on those small icons. If you need to add other forms of resources, just click on the "..."  icon and you will see the interface below.

Here is an example of my own work. I added a Youtube video concerning UNESCO to my padlet.

⏩Step 3: You may want to make some changes in the process of creating your own wall. That can be easily realized by the "modify" icon on the top right corner of the screen. You can not only change the title and description of your post here, but also the theme and layout here. Adding tags in the "modify" can make your padlet easy for searching.

Suggested activities

Students can use Padlet to realize:

Group discussion

After teachers give students a topic, although some students have their own ideas,  they may be too shy to express them.  With Padlet, everyone in class can participate in the discussion and share their opinions, including students who are reluctant to speak.

Teachers can use Padlet to:

Assign homework

Padlet can be used as an approach to finish homework such as creative writing. It's easy for teachers to asses students' work in this way. Also, students can learn from each other's work to realize the implicit learning.

Collect information
Teachers can collect students' questions and suggestions for teaching in Padlet.

Advantages

💗 Various forms of resource can be upload to Padlet, including ideas, images, videos  and links
💗 A Personalized tool : users can choose different wallpaper or post color according to their own likes.
💗 Privacy protection: You can set your post as private, password protected, secrect or public.

Disadvantages
💢 Resouces can not be added derectly by dragging and dropping.

In general, Padlet has more advantages than disadvantages. From my own perspective, the biggest advantage of it is the real-time update, which makes collaborative learning such as group discussion possible. It a very practical tool to express opinions and upgrade interaction. Try it by yourself!
