What is Screencast-O-Matic?

Screencast-O-Matic is an user-friendly screen recorder which is easy to master. It uses the easiest method to realize video recording and editing. This blog will introduce its practical significance for both teachers and learners in language education.

How to use Screencast-O-Matic?

Recording only takes two steps! 

👉 First, click on "starting recording for free" on the homepage

👉 Second, click on "launch free recorder". If you are a new user, you will be reqiured to install a launcher on your computer first. Then you can start immediately to record your own video.

Once you launch the recorder, you will see three options: "screen", "webcam" and "both", which i have already highlighted by a pink rectangle(see the screenshot below).

"Screen" is used to record the items on your computer screen, such as photos.

"webcam" is used to record a veido of yourself. The max time is 15 minutes.

"both" can realize the above two functions at the same time.

This is my own Screencast-O-Matic video which used "both" function. I opened the photo album of my trip in Budapest and spoke at the same time, sharing my experience with others.

Why do i say it is beneficial to language education?

It has strong usefulness both in language teaching and language learning.

📐 As teachers, we can:

• Record videos to carry out distant teaching, which is conducive to the sharing of knowledge. Language teachers just need to upload videos to the Internet and learners around the world can see them. 
• Record videos regarding schools's curriculum for students. If students have doubts after school, they can ask the videos for help.
• Teachers can assign homework of video recording to students. The form of this kind of homweork is more vivid. And teachers can assess students' proficiency more intuitively.

📖 As learners, we can:

• Use it to practice oral skills. Recording our everyday oral practice and comparing our performance by reviewing the video. With time lapsing, we will make progress.
• Watch videos of different teachers. Our teachers are not limited in the school. We can choose any language teacher whose teaching style is suitable for us or whose lesson design attracts us.
